Foodbanks shouldn’t exist. But they do, and they couldn’t operate without regular donations.
We're really proud to be supporting our local foodbank in Hackney, East London, through a 25p donation for every jar of our Limited Edition Gingerbread Almond Butter that we sell, as well as our ongoing 'One from you, one from us' scheme.
A few of our team who live locally are also volunteering at Hackney Foodbank every week to make up their 3 paid volunteering days each team member gets every year. Volunteering is still allowed during lockdown and is a fantastic way to support your local foodbank. Due to Covid restrictions it is better if you can commit to a regular slot for a few weeks so that you can join the same 'bubble' of volunteers.
Since the start of the pandemic, the Hackney Foodbank has seen demand for food parcels triple, with no sign of this easing up. In the first four months of lockdown this year, Hackney Foodbank distributed almost the same amount of food as they did in the whole of 2019. They need our help.
Through donations, Hackney Foodbank were recently able to buy a new van to help keep up with the growing demand at their five centres. This will really make a difference.
This week we're sharing some behind the scenes photos and stories of the people who keep the foodbank running over on our Instagram. The passion they have for helping their local community is truly inspiring.
How can you help?
Visit the Trussell Trust's website to find out where your local foodbank is and how you can help them (with volunteering or donations). Foodbanks are often in urgent need of these items in particular, but ask your local foodbank if there are other essential items they are short of:
- Sanitary items
- Toiletries (shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste)
- Tinned goods
- Toilet paper
- Jars of nutrient dense food (natural peanut butter is a great source of protein, fibre and healthy fats)
Donate a jar of peanut butter to Hackney Foodbank through our website and we will match it (this is totally not for profit). Thanks to the support of our wonderful community we have donated over 5000 jars so far (as of November 2020).
